Somone, often called La Somone after a local river, is a locality situated on the Petite-Côte, 77 km south of Dakar, Senegal¹[1]. It is part of the rural community of Sindia, attached to the department of Mbour in the Thiès region¹[1]. The locality was erected as a commune in July 2008¹[1].

Somone is a small seaside resort that thrives on tourism, but many Western residents have also purchased real estate there¹[1]. The opening of the new Blaise-Diagne International Airport, about half an hour’s drive north of Somone, has renewed interest in this small coastal town¹[1].

The village is nestled between the sea and a lagoon, offering a haven of peace away from mass tourism²[3]. The lagoon is included in the communal perimeter¹[1]. The lagoon hosts oyster farming activity¹[1].

Football is the main sport with a renovated stadium in 2019 now including stands for spectators¹[1]. There is also a very popular basketball court among young people¹[1]. On the beach (no fixed club), practitioners practice Senegalese wrestling¹[1]. The town also has a judo club ‚Baobab-Somone’¹[1].
